Scope it out...

...was the 5K my family & I participated in over the weekend! It turned out great...although I have a little cold now from being out in the drizzle. Luckily the rain stopped right when the race started, so it turned out to be a beautiful day for such a good cause. The girls did great and we had a nice lunch with the whole family afterward.

Some scenes from our walk...

Beautiful Cherry Blossom tree...it's the start of the Cherry Blossom Festival ya know? If you haven't visited during this time of year and you get a chance, it's a sight to see...

staying dry before the race...

all cozied up and ready to roll...

Some various statues we passed along the way...

...guess you figured out we were in DC...with that being the Washington Monument and all, tee hee. And that little yellow man? I have no clue, I caught him out of the corner of my eye and had to run back to catch a shot of him. He was in the middle of the road. It looked as if he were made from yellow road tape, so I'm guessing someone got really bored!

running, running, running...

Our U.S. Capital Building & the Botanical Gardens...

...is that not the most beautiful building you've ever seen? It's ginormous and such gorgeous detail, just like all of the buildings in DC. And I don't recall ever seeing the Botanical Gardens so I had to get a shot. Definitely the largest greenhouse I've ever laid eyes on. And Chicago was at National Theater which is one of my fav musicals.

Hmm, this one I took after the race...just thought it was great with the police officers and the Capital building all misty in the background...

Now, on with the seriousness of the reason for the 5k.

My family has been affected by colorectal cancer, otherwise known as colon cancer. It's the second-leading cause of U.S. cancer deaths for men and women combined. It affects men and women of all ethnic backgrounds equally. Every year, nearly 150,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with the disease, and nearly 60,000 die.

What can you do?

Get a colonoscopy by the age of 50 (or earlier if there is family history) to help prevent this horrible disease. A colonoscopy is a test which can be used to detect growths or polyps in the colon and rectum and remove them before they ever develop into cancer. The earlier colorectal cancer is detected, the more curable it is, so do what you can to prevent it.

In very sad news...my close girlfriend over at WorkoutMommy lost her mother yesterday, to this horrible disease. Please click here to go visit her and send her some warm thoughts & prayers if you wish. I know she'd appreciate the support and would find comfort in your comments.

Thanks for being awesome & such a great support system!

Jaime

Awesome pics! The one with the umbrella will make a great scrapbook page - I already know what stamp I would use!

WOW, good for you for getting your whole family out there to do something to help this amazing cause!! I think it is so great to show your kids compassion like that, they will grow up with the urge to help as much as they can :) And it doesn't hurt that you got to do the race at such a gorgeous location!! xo!

It looks like you had lots of fun. We do a walk for life every year, and we have lots of fun.

It was for a great cause too. It has effected our family too.

Wonderful photos. ANd I would have been so tired (who am I kidding I couldn't have done it ever) that I wouldn't have been able to take any pictures...let alone hold up the camera!

We must live somewhat in the same vicinity. Way to go with the 5K! (Love your Bob stroller too!) My daughter & I had planned to run one last fall but my husband ended up traveling a bunch and it just got too difficult trying to train with one on a bike, one in a stroller, and a bit of a dramatic princess running...hoping we can make it happen this coming fall.

Wonderful pictures!
